Shadow Writing
What is shadow writing? Shadow writing is when student's copy a writer's style or theme from a book. First the teacher presents the book that she wants to focus on and read it to the class. Next students can use a graphic organizer given by the teacher or a sequence chart of events that happened in the book to recreate their own story.
Diary of a Worm is a great book that lends itself to allowing students to shadow write. Students can create their own story by recreating it as Diary of a Mouse, Diary of a Tiger, etc.
Other great books for shadow writing include: The Day I Swapped My Dad for 2 Goldfish. Students can recreate the story as The Day I Swapped my ____ for ____. Students can write their own books.
The Gingerbread Man is another book that works great. Students can recreate stories such as Jalapeño man etc. Listed below is an example of a fill in the blank story for students with the book Click, Clack Moo, Cows That Type. Students fill in the blanks and use their imagination.

Class Cooperation
Teach your kids about bullying by posting these posters and going over them with students. Discuss what is a bullying and role play with students what to do if they are being bullied. A great book to read is, "The Crayon Box That Talked." It is about a box of crayons that do not get along and at the end they realize the importance of working together.
